Acrylic/Mixed Media
Upon retiring from her position on Long Island, New York where Ellen continually found inspiration in the ever-changing landscapes that surrounded her, she found an equally amazing environment in the low country and on Hilton Head Island. Nature, with its timeless beauty, became her muse, and the sea, marsh, and ocean, her canvases of expression.
Ellen’s artistic journey has always been a dance between reality and abstraction. She employs beautifully colored landscapes that mirror the vibrant hues of her beloved surroundings. Through a semi-abstract lens, she seeks to convey the essence of nature's allure, capturing its spirit rather than replicating its form.
Texture and color is the language used to communicate with her audience. With a variety of tools and materials such as pencil, charcoal and different mediums, she is able to alter and scratch into the surface of her canvases, creating a tactile experience that invites viewers to feel the movement of the ocean breeze, the subtle undulations of the marsh and the bounty and joy of the garden. Each stroke is a deliberate exploration; a fusion of technique and intuition.
Ellen’s work has been exhibited in numerous galleries and has been showcased in solo exhibitions in the low country. She was awarded second place at the Art League of Hilton Head's 2025 Biennale Exhibition.
